With the challenges 2020 has thrown our way, one thing is for certain- being kind, or having someone show an act of kindness, makes us feel good.
Acts of kindness have made themselves apparent through our downtown small businesses. Some businesses have shown kindness to one another through partnerships, like the Marquee featuring Nightingale Coffee through a Coffee and Cocktails event. Other businesses did things such as offering specials for essential workers. Even though times may be tough, the downtown community is about supporting and helping one another. At Brightside Café, the words of inspiration filling the walls will brighten your day if you are ever feeling down. Businesses supporting businesses and those going out of their way to bring smiles to the Siouxland community, are beautiful acts of kindness.
While we love that small businesses are helping and supporting one another, in these trying times they also need your kindness. Now is a critical time in our community for you to shop at your local stores. As the holiday season approaches, think local. While it may be convenient to do your shopping online at big name brand stores, know that many downtown shops, theaters, restaurants, and bars are also online. All of them are also open and ready to help you find what you need.
As our holiday season kicks off in downtown, we will be listing all the local options for you through our website and on our downtown social media channels. We will also be promoting Small Business Marketplace (Holiday Edition) in conjunction with Iowa’s West Coast Initiative to give the Siouxland small business community ‘storefronts’ in downtown every Saturday from Thanksgiving to Christmas.
Still not sure what to get that special someone for the holidays? Consider purchasing downtown cash from Downtown Partners. Downtown cash certificates can be redeemed at ANY downtown business, it’s a gift card for all of downtown!
Our downtown businesses want to continue to spread love and kindness to the community, so we need to support them as well. Kindness is contagious, let’s spread it (instead of sickness) this Holiday season.
