Discovering Worksite Wellness

The Siouxland Chamber of Commerce was founded in 1872, and the organization’s mission now is the same as it was then…to be a resource for the business community. With nearly 1,400 members from the tri-state region, and businesses with one employee to thousands, members’ needs continually evolve. Although the year 2020 changed the landscape for many businesses, it also uncovered a need – keeping the workforce healthy.

The pandemic changed the way we do business, it changed the way we interact with people, including our co-workers or employees. Virtual this…virtual that…how do we know if employees working from home are okay? How do we keep our employees healthy? There aren’t lines of people waiting to fill open positions – so how do we keep the employees we have healthy?

All of these questions will be answered with a new monthly meeting available exclusively for members of the Siouxland Chamber of Commerce. “Discovering Workplace Wellness” is the idea brought together by Angela Drent, Siouxland District Health; Sarah Rol, IBC; and Chamber staff members Heidi Reinking and Angela Rogers.

Beginning in January, the Siouxland Chamber will host a monthly meeting on the third Tuesday of each month, at 1 p.m. Each month a new topic will be presented by a Chamber member to other Chamber members. With 1400 members, there are local resources available to tackle almost every topic. Discovering Workplace Wellness will do that.

On January 18 – Isaac Tubesing with Athletico will do a presentation on office ergonomics. Many employees began working from home – setting up their offices wherever they could in their homes (kitchen islands, couches, etc.) and the long-term effects could be detrimental. The January meeting will educate professionals on standing while working, positioning office chairs, computer keyboards/mouse, and how adjustments now can keep employees healthy.

Other topics for the year including new approaches to meals/eating, creating office fitness routines, educating the business community on health screenings available in Siouxland, financial wellness for your employees, what your health insurance actually covers, volunteering, goal setting, and more.

Meeting specifics will be available to Siouxland Chamber members through their weekly email and all meetings will be provided as a benefit of their membership.
