As we begin 2023, Siouxland GO reflected not only on last year, but also celebrated the last two decades as an organization. While most of our current members were not around for the start of Siouxland (formerly Sioux City) GO in 2002, we’ve met others in the community, maybe even our co-workers and bosses, who were there. When we hear the stories about what they loved about Sioux City GO, it inspires us to continue this for the next generation. Then one day, we can reminisce on the people we met and relationships formed from Siouxland GO, the exciting events we put on, the innovation we sparked, the projects we executed, the ways we volunteered and gave back to the community, and so much more. While some things have evolved over the years, one thing remains the same, Siouxland GO exists for people to serve as active members in the Siouxland Community, and pave the way for the next generation.
As you read, perhaps you are one of those past Sioux City GO members, and this article has just unlocked some core memories for you. Maybe you remember that friend you made from GO whom you haven’t connected with in a while, that organization you volunteered with or the event you helped plan. If you’ve felt a little disconnected from the community and are not as engaged as you once were, we want to encourage you that it’s never too late to get involved! Connect with that old friend, sign up to volunteer again for that local non-profit, or attend the community event you missed out on the last couple of years. Don’t let the work and responsibilities of life take from the joy you once felt from being engaged in the community. The best news? One thing we have changed over the years is there is no longer an age requirement in Siouxland GO. Whether you’re a recent college grad or a more seasoned resident, if you’re looking for connection with your community and others- Siouxland GO is the organization for you!
